Flying home from Costa Rica - June 24, 2023

On the last morning in Costa Rica, the "three gringos" ventured to the panaderia (bakery) all on their own. We felt quite accomplished as we made our selections and paid for our purchases without any assistance!

After enjoying our bread and pastries with a cup of fine Costa Rican coffee, we finished packing. Bill had to return to the States for another medical appointment and without realizing it, he booked the same flight as ours. Bill lined up a friend to take us to the airport. After our experiences with "Tico time", we were a little concerned about getting to the airport on time but the driver actually showed up an hour and a half earlier than we were expecting. Thankfully, we were all ready to go.

After a long flight to Denver, we had to change planes and go through Customs. It felt good to get off the plane and stretch our legs but we were not expecting the 20-minute walk just to get to the Customs area. We made it through Customs, grabbed a quick bite to eat, and made it back to our gate just a few minutes before we boarded our final flight to Kansas City.

We landed about 11:30 pm, picked up the car, dropped Bill off at Tim's (his son) apartment, and made it to our hotel at 1 am.

We were in a fight for our lives last night and there are blood stains in the camper and on our clothes to prove it! The mosquitoes had not been too bad until we went to bed. A few followed us into the camper but we managed to kill them before we fell asleep. At about 1am, Rob had to go out and when he came back to bed, a swarm of mosquitos rode in on him. After fighting with them for almost an hour, he felt like he had finally won the battle when Pam woke up and had to go out. No matter how hard she tried to avoid it, mosquitos came in with her as well and the battle started all over again. Pam put on her eye mask and managed to go back to sleep, but Rob didn't get back to sleep until almost 3 am. Even then, he slept with the fly swatter in his hand. We finally got up at about 8 and decided to get the heck out of this place. We didn't even take the time to make coffee. Destination Silver Bay, MN and beyond - July 6, 2023

We left camp this morning and headed toward the north shore of Lake Superior. We took the scenic route again today and it was much more interesting than yesterday. We passed thru lots of small towns and by many small lakes. Minnesota is known as the Land of 10,000 Lakes and that description seems pretty accurate. Lindsay asked last year, "What do you guys talk about when you are in the car for a long time?" We find ourselves asking all kinds of questions about what we see and as soon as we get a cell signal, we look things up. Here are some interesting (and mostly useless) facts about Minnesota (in no particular order): 1. The town of Bovey, which we drove thru today, is the home of the picture "Grace". Destination Kansas City, MO

We s pent the morning getting ready for our trip to Costa Rica - packing and making sure we had everything we needed and we knew where to find the important things. We are flying out of Kansas City (about three hours away) and since our flight leaves early in the morning, we decided to spend tonight in Kansas City. We stopped for gas at Sapp Bros Travel Center in Harrisonville, MO because Joan wanted us to see the bathrooms. What an experience it was!! The toilet seats are heated with a "remote control" on the side. Apparently, the toilet can function as a bidet with a dryer and all kinds of interesting features. I was a little afraid to try anything. Each stall in the women's room had a toilet and a sink. There was even a place to leave tips if you were pleased with the "experience".
