Destination Two Lakes Campground, Drummond Wisconsin - July 7, 2023

We were in a fight for our lives last night and there are blood stains in the camper and on our clothes to prove it!

The mosquitoes had not been too bad until we went to bed. A few followed us into the camper but we managed to kill them before we fell asleep.

At about 1am, Rob had to go out and when he came back to bed, a swarm of mosquitos rode in on him. After fighting with them for almost an hour, he felt like he had finally won the battle when Pam woke up and had to go out. No matter how hard she tried to avoid it, mosquitos came in with her as well and the battle started all over again. Pam put on her eye mask and managed to go back to sleep, but Rob didn't get back to sleep until almost 3 am. Even then, he slept with the fly swatter in his hand.

We finally got up at about 8 and decided to get the heck out of this place. We didn't even take the time to make coffee. Just as we were leaving, one of the camp employees stopped us and asked to see our camper as he was in the process of building one. It was fun to give him the "tour" and answer his questions.

We stopped at McDonald's for breakfast and WiFi and decided on a general direction to head. It is generally more difficult to find an open campsite on a weekend. We knew we wanted to head towards Copper Falls State Park in northern Wisconsin but that park was full. We did see that a few National Forest campgrounds had some first-come, first-serve sites so we decided to take our chances and head for one of those.

The first one on our list was Two Lakes Campground near Drummond, Wisconsin. It is a beautiful campground on - wait for it - two lakes! Several rustic sites were available so we chose one. The first thing we did was spray head to toe with bug spray then we set up the screen tent. We decided to have our first fire of this trip and see if the smoke will help keep the mosquitos at bay.

There is a chance of rain tonight so we did set up some cover in the event of outdoor "visits" in the night. Rain would be welcome if it keeps the mosquitos away tonight.

First fire of the trip.
